The Prog?

The Indians announced that Jacobs Field will henceforth be called Progressive Field, the result of a 16-year naming-rights deal. Perhaps it will be nicknamed "The Prog."

Bye Bye Braves

After 42 years, Richmond will be saying goodbye to the Braves. Atlanta's Triple-A affiliate will be moving to a new $40-million park in the suburbs of Atlanta, all because Richmond failed to provide a new stadium.

Big League Ballpark Notes

Camden Yards' scoreboard (left) has been in place since the park opened in 1992. Now it is being demolished to make way for a new state-of-the-art scoreboard by the Orioles' opening day ... Just as the Indians are encouraging the players in their organization to make Arizona their home (because the Tribe is moving its spring training to Goodyear in 2009), they are wooing the Reds to join them there ... On Thursday, the St. Petersburg city council voted to issue a request for proposals to develop the land on which Tropicana Field now sits. Money from this redevelopment is critical to the funding to build the Rays a new waterfront ballpark ... Just as the Nationals are attempting to do, the Twins are seeking a LEED "green" designation for their new ballpark.
