$500 million facelift

With a lot of hoopla, the Dodgers announced that big changes will be made to their ballpark. When Dodger Stadium celebrates its 50th birthday in 2012, it will be a re-made wonderland, with renovations that will make the $250 million makeover happening now at KC's Kauffman Stadium seem like minor repairs.

Legacy through living

Important stories don't just happen at pro ballparks. Sometimes high-school fields are where heartwarming events occur. Big League Ballpark Notes

The end for Tiger Stadium is now one step closer. A contract to demolish the park was awarded Tuesday, although plans call to leave the field and some of the stands intact for now ... A report by St. Petersburg city staffers presents more obstacles to the proposed new park for the Tampa Bay Rays (left) ... As was the case last Thursday at Nationals Park in Washington, the Papal visit to a packed Yankee Stadium Sunday went very smoothly ... The Oakland A's now think it will be 2012, instead of 2011, when their new park opens in Fremont ... When the Mets open their new ballpark next year, it will feature an entry rotunda inspired by the one at Ebbets Field. This one, though, will feature a tribute to Jackie Robinson. His widow Sharon visited the construction site last week.

Visitors in March: 34,326. Since the site started: over 1.3 million!
