$500M facelift

The Dodgers announced that big changes will be made to their ballpark. When Dodger Stadium celebrates its 50th birthday in 2012, its renovations will make the $250 million makeover happening now at KC's Kauffman Stadium seem minor.

River floods River Bandits

That really is a baseball park above. Thanks to this shot from Matt Nelson of Coralville, Iowa, you can see the overflow from the Mississippi River surrounding Modern Woodmen Park (although the field itself is dry), home of the River Bandits of the Midwest League. Their home games are being played elsewhere temporarily.

Big League Ballpark Notes

For perhaps the first time in its 94-year history, Wrigley Field (left) will host a minor league game on July 29 ... Speaking of Wrigley, with the Brewers in Chicago to face the Cubs, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel took a fascinating look at the renovations needed at the Friendly Confines ... The Red Sox expect to break the MLB record for most consecutive home sell-outs later this season. The Indians set the current record of 455 in 2001 ... The plot of land directly between the new Nationals Park and the Anacostia River is an unsightly mess. Now the owner of that site is proposing retail and residential development there ... The city of Sarasota is now courting the Red Sox to move their spring-training operations from Ft. Myers to a renovated Ed Smith Stadium. The Sox might be able to buy out their lease at City of Palms Park in 2011 if they choose to move.
