Two worthy causes

BASEBALLPARKS.COM urges you to donate to two very worthy causes. First, as you know, Tulsa Drillers first-base coach Mike Coolbaugh was killed after being struck by a batted ball on July 22. The team has established a fund to provide for his family. Second, front-office employee Rai Henniger of the Colorado Springs Sky Sox was seriously injured prior to a game in May. The team honored him Sunday (see moving video footage here). A fund has been established to help his family cope with his massive medical bills.

Big League Ballpark Notes

Now that the University of Miami has decided to move its football games out of the Orange Bowl starting in 2008 (interestingly to Dolphin Stadium, left, where the Marlins play now), will the city tear down the aging facility to provide a site for a new park for the Marlins? ... After Sarasota County decided not to provide funding to rebuild the Reds' spring ballpark, the Reds' responded that they aren't in a rush to leave Sarasota ... Sports Illustrated polled big-league players to find out which parks are the easiest and the toughest to hit in ... With a groundbreaking ceremony coming this Thursday, the land on which the Twins' new stadium will be built continues to make news. After a panel ruled the site's value is $23.8 million, the owners of the land vowed to appeal.
