New park for Rays?

The Tampa Bay Rays have indicated they are pursuing a brand new ballpark on the Bay in St. Petersburg. The plan calls for the sale of Tropicana Field (above) for development. The team wants a vote on the plan in Nov. of 2008.

Big League Ballpark Notes

Following the narrow defeat of a ballot initiative in Sarasota that would've increased property taxes to help fund needed renovations to Ed Smith Stadium, the Reds wasted no time in announcing that they will move their spring-training operations out of Sarasota as soon as a new location can be found. Arizona would love to lure the team west. Goodyear, which has already landed the Indians (left), might be on the prowl for the Reds to join them. Tucson figures it doesn't have a very good shot, though ... The Marlins have slowly come around to the realization that the Orange Bowl site might be their only shot at a new stadium.

Visitors year to date through 10/31: 325,462. Since the site started: over 1.3 million!
