A comparison of the two parks of the 2007 World Series

One of the ballparks in the 2007 World Series was making its debut in the Fall Classic, while the other was back after only a two-season absence. Since the AL won the All Star Game, the Red Sox had the home-field advantage, meaning the first two games were scheduled for Fenway Park. The Rockies, like their park, were making their first trip to the World Series, and hosted Games 3 and 4. They would've hosted Game 5, but there wasn't one!

Here now is a "tale of the tape" of the two parks. And, yes, some of the items are a little tongue-in-cheek!

Coors Field   Fenway Park
As an expansion team, the Rockies played two seasons at Mile High Stadium before moving into Coors in 1995. Year opened 1912. Babe Ruth stopped playing for the home team here after 1919. Doesn't matter any more, since "the curse" was broken in 2004
The park was built in Denver's historic lower downtown area, known to locals as "LoDo." Site The neighborhood of Boston known for over a century as Fenway or just "the Fens"
Some of the most beautiful entryways in baseball, the Rockpile seats in center field, a spectacular view Special features The Green Monster; Yawkey Way prior to home games
HOK Designed by Osborn Engineering
$215 million Cost to build $650,000
347'-390'-415'-375'-350'
The distances are intentionally long because of the "mile high" altitude of the park. This gives Coors the largest "area of fair territory" currently in the Majors.
Outfield dimensions 310'-334'-390'-379'-302'
Deepest point is 420', just to the right of dead center. The left-field foul pole is really closer than 310' from home, but the Sox won't let anyone measure it
50,445 Origianlly designed to hold 43,800, it was enlarged after the Rockies drew incredible crowds to Mile High Stadium in the franchise's first two seasons. Seating capacity 36,108 Only Oakland's McAfee Coliseum, with its upper deck permanently closed, has a smaller capacity

First  World Series hosted 2007 was the tenth
The Rockies had never played in one before Last World Series won by home team Prior to 2007, it was 2004, when the Sox swept the beleaguered Cardinals. The Rockies looked pretty beleaguered in 2007, too.
One, in 1998 It was the highest scoring All Star Game ever, of course: AL won 13-8 All Star Games hosted Three Fenway's first All Star Game was supposed to be in 1944, but it was canceled due to WW II
