Great American Ball Park

Notch and all
The Reds opened the Great American Ball Park (GABP) in 2003, and to say it was an
improvement over sterile Cinergy Field (perhaps better known as Riverfront Stadium) would be a definite understatement.
Still, it doesn't quite measure up to, say, PNC Park, but it does contain some
novel design elements. One is "the notch" which permits
pedestrians to see into the stadium from downtown Cincinnati. This shot
shows the opening, which is behind the third-base on-deck circle.
The park also features hands-down the best team Hall of Fame and Museum in the Majors. In addition to the team's HOF and memorabilia, there is a rose garden that grows exactly where Pete Rose's 4,192nd career hit landed when Riverfront Stadium occupied the site. That single, of course, allowed him to pass Ty Cobb and become the sport's all-time hits leader. For much more on this interesting park, see the BASEBALLPARKS.COM review.
