BASEBALLPARKS.COM's Ten Must-See Parks

PNC Park

Like its waterside cousin in San Francisco, Pittsburgh's PNC Park is a beauty in three key ways:  gorgeous exterior; wonderful interior and spectacular view.

WHERE THIS PARK IS LOCATED:  If you know where the Pirates' old park, Three Rivers Stadium, was located, then you'll find PNC Park with no difficulty.  The now-demolished Three Rivers was just a few hundred yards from PNC, right on the banks of the Allegheny River, across the water from downtown Pittsburgh.

WHO PLAYS HERE:  The Pirates moved into PNC Park in 2001.

SPECIAL EVENTS WHICH HAVE OCCURRED HERE:  In the Pirates’ brief time at PNC, milestones have been few (O.K., they’ve been non-existent).  There was an interesting game on July 28, 2001, perhaps the Pirates’ high point in a lackluster 100-loss, last-place season.  In that contest, the home team trailed Houston by six runs with two outs and no one on base in the bottom of the ninth.  The Pirates staged a rally for the ages, taking the victory by scoring seven straight runs, capped by Brian Giles’ grand slam off ace closer Billy Wagner.

WHY YOU MUST SEE THIS PARK:  Yes, the most unique element of this park is the view.  Words cannot describe how beautiful it is -- and how much more beautiful it becomes at night.  I suggest sitting in the upper deck behind home or third base.  You'll be able to see the watercraft on the river, the Roberto Clemente Bridge and the lovely skyline.

PNC Park was named BASEBALLPARKS.COM's New Park of the Year for 2001.  Take a look at the page devoted to this.
