Phoenix Municipal Stadium
Not the most noteworthy of Arizona's parks, but at least it's near the
Phoenix zoo! This stadium, dubbed "Phoenix Muni" by the locals,
hosts the Oakland A's during the Spring.

A major renovation of this park was completed in 2003, and it is certainly
more attractive and comfortable than it used to be. The photo on the left was taken in 2006, and the one on the right in 2004.
To get to the stadium
from the main parking lot you have to climb a long spiral ramp and walk across a
bridge which passes over a busy thoroughfare. The shot above on the right was taken
from that bridge. But whatever you do, don't park in one of the lots next
to the nearby office buildings. Little gopher-like men are just waiting to
tow your car as soon as you are out of sight!
In addition to hosting games in March, "Muni" used to be the
home park of the Phoenix Firebirds of the Pacific Coast League. That all
ended when beautiful Scottsdale Stadium opened in 1992, luring the Firebirds to
the new facility 15 minutes away. Of course, that franchise had to hit the
road (to Fresno) when the Majors came to town in '98 in the form of the
Diamondbacks.
