Target Field

Cheering the rain
When the Twins moved into Target Field in April of 2010, it had been 29 years since the team had played a home game outdoors. The team had been tenants at the horrible Metrodome since 1982, meaning many of their fans weren't even alive when the Twins played their final games at Metropolitan Stadium in 1981.
So playing games in the great outdoors was a novel concept in the Twin Cities in 2010. My favorite story about the park's early days is this: during the second regular-season game at the new park, it started to rain. How did the outdoor-baseball-starved fans react? They cheered!

Believe me, there are numerous features at Target Field to cheer about. That's why our in-depth review of the park has more photos than we'd ever included in a review: 46. The exterior might be a little cluttered, but the interior is to die for: the seating bowl is phenomenal; the view of the skyline is stunning; there's radiant heat in the concourses for chilly days and nights; the sense of intimacy (utterly lacking in the Dome) is wonderful. And the food selections have a definite local orientation, which is definitely welcomed.
And you can actually hear what the PA system is playing -- which was a near impossibility with the sound waves bouncing off of all of the surfaces at the Metrodome. Hooray for outdoor baseball!
