Other highlights for 2001 included: the Class AA All Star Game in Round Rock, TX; the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) Convention in Milwaukee; the Smithsonian’s tribute to the 100th Anniversary of Minor League Baseball in Washington (and getting to meet the real-life Minor League hero Crash Davis!); achieving my goal of seeing a game in all 30 current MLB parks (number 30 was the Metrodome); topping my personal record of 35 parks in a year, when I attended a game in my 36th at Staten Island; seeing Cal in the final stages of his “farewell tour;” and exploring the sites of now-demolished treasures like Crosley Field (Cincinnati), Forbes Field (Pittsburgh), the Polo Grounds (Harlem), Ebbets Field (Brooklyn), Connie Mack Stadium and the Baker Bowl (both in Philadelphia), Griffith Stadium (Washington), Braves Field (Boston), Metropolitan Stadium (Bloomington, MN), Municipal Stadium and League Park (both in Cleveland) and my beloved Memorial Stadium (Baltimore).
